I think the path that led to Vance Kitira began on the road trip in summer1978.
I had only been in the U.S. for a year when I decided that I wanted to
see more of this great country, because I might never have a chance to come back ever again. I went from Syracuse to the West Coast and began the wandering drive back to New Jersey. I was young, broke, oblivious to what could go
wrong and there was no such thing as GPS. It was amazing… It changed my way of thinking and so began my first business.
Fast forward to today and my latest road trip. I felt kind of like the Geico guy, but no motorcycle. No firm agenda. Just me, the GPS, and a list of customers all over the state. Unlike my first trip, I wasn’t going to fish for my dinner, but I felt that same freedom. Sometimes when I stopped at a store, they would say “I didn’t know you were coming. Why didn’t you tell us?” The answer is simple, I didn’t know either. It’s one of my greatest pleasures to stop by and talk with customers and feel like a traveler, not a manufacturer. People work so hard, and what I see in their stores inspires me.

เส้นทางที่นําไปสู่ Vance Kitira
เริ่มต้นจากขับรถเที่ยวดูเมืองต่างๆในฤดูร้อนปี ๒๕๒๑ ฉันเพิ่งอยู่อาศัยในสหรัฐอเมริกาได้เพียงหนึ่งปีก็ตัดสินใจที่จะ’เจาะประเทศที่ยิ่งใหญ่นี้’ เพราะคิดว่าคงจะไม่มีโอกาสกลับมาอีก
จาก Syracuse เราขับรถไปทางตะวันตกเลาะเลี่ยวจนถึงลอสแอนเจลีสและขับเร่ร่อนกลับนิวเจอร์ซีย์ ตอนนั้นไม่มี GPS พกแต่ความหนุ่ม ความจน ความไม่กลัว แต่ช่างเป็นความรู้สึกที่ดี และช่วยให้เกิดความคิดที่จะหาทางทำธุรกิจ ทุกวันนี้ก็ยังเดินทางไปโน่นนี่หาโอกาสเยี่ยมลูกค้า บางครั้งลูกค้าบอกเป็นเชิงต่อว่า ไม่รู้ว่าเราจะมาเยี่ยม ทําไมไม่บอกเขา เราตอบง่ายๆว่าเราเองก็ยังไม่รู้เลยว่าจะมาถึงร้านเขาวันเวลาไหน คือเราไปเรื่อยๆ เห็นอะไรน่าสนใจก็หยุด เหนื่อยก็พัก
สิ่งที่ได้จากการเยี่ยมเยือนลูกค้า คือกำลังใจที่เห็นเทียนเราถูกจัดวางอย่างพิถีพิถัน พวกเขาขมักเขม้นทำงานให้ความสนใจกับทุกสิ่งทุกอย่าง จึงเป็นแรงบันดาลใจให้เราอยากหาอยากทำสิ่งดีๆให้กับพวกเขา
