Those Small Little Things
In the past two weeks, I have been writing memoir. A story a day keeps me out of being home alone. I have to confess that writing is not my forte but somehow I start to feel comfortable and even like it. Well, I didn’t realize this until a few days ago.
Tawni, the art director of Sullivans, asked me to write ‘From Vance’ for their 2022 catalog. I said “Yes” without knowing what I would write about. And this time I have to do the writing by myself since Susan, who had wrote for me for years, can’t see well from the complication of her cataract surgery. But I knew that I could pull this one by myself.
It took me merely 3 hours to finished the first draft. With Susan, Ida and Victoria helped edited, rearranged the words, we finalized the page in just a couple days, as in the attachment. I was kind of surprised myself that I didn’t feel any pressure in writing these stories or it could say it’s effortless. I guess I have to thank the discipline that I regulate myself to write lately.
Frankly, I didn’t expect there would be any more of From Vance page in their catalog. Sullivans is a big company who would most likely to focus on sales, not on stories. What I have been sharing with our customers are about life in general. It’s strictly no business matter on this page. Literally, they realize how important of this seems-to-be unimportant thing.
‘From Vance’ has been a page of our catalog ever since 2007. Some customers, like Helen at Candlestick, a store in Sonoma, skip the introduction and turn the new catalog to the last page to find out where I am up to and whats next. The page indeed, brings us closer.
Everyone has stories. I believe they are all good with his/her own character. I myself don’t care much about big stories, but the small little things which would make living worth while.

ในช่วงสองสัปดาห์ที่ผ่านมา ได้นั่งเขียนเรื่องราวที่ผ่านมาในชีวิต ต้องขอสารภาพว่าเราเองไม่ถนัดการเขียน แต่พอเขียนไปๆก็เริ่มรู้สึกดีและกลับชอบด้วยซ้ำ เราไม่ตะหนักถึงความรู้สึกนี้เลยจนกระทั่งเมื่อไม่กี่วันที่แล้ว
Tawni ผู้อํานวยการฝ่ายการตลาดของบริษัทSullivans ขอให้เราเขียน ‘From Vance’ ให้กับแคตตาล็อกปี ๒๐๒๒ เราตอบรับทันทีโดยไม่รู้ว่าจะมีเรื่องอะไรให้เขียน รู้เพียงว่าไม่กลัวที่จะเขียน
ใช้เวลาเพียง ๓ ชั่วโมงก็ได้บทความฉบับแรก อ๋อยกับลูกเอ๋ยช่วยตรวจแก้ไขคำไวยากรณ์ จัดเรียงคําใหม่ และเสร็จสิ้นส่งต้นฉบับให้ Tawniได้ภายในสองวัน ก็ประหลาดใจกับตัวเองที่ไม่รู้สึกกดดันในการเขียนเรื่องราวเหล่านี้หรือสามารถพูดได้ว่าช่างง่ายดาย คงต้องขอบคุณวินัยที่เราควบคุมตัวเองให้เขียน เขียน เขียน ในช่วงเวลาก่อนหน้านี้
‘From Vance’ เป็นหน้านึงในแคตตาล็อกของ Vance Kitira มาตั้งแต่ปี ๒๕๕๐ ลูกค้าบางรายเช่น Helen ร้าน Candlestickที่เมือง Sonoma รัฐแคลิฟอร์เนีย จะเปิดไปหน้าสุดท้ายในทุกครั้งที่ได้รับแคตตาล็อค เพื่อดูว่าเรา Vance Kitira ทำอะไรไปอยู่ที่ไหนในช่วงปีที่ผ่านมา มีความรู้สึกนึกคิดอะไรอย่างไร แคตตาล็อกหน้านี้ช่วยให้เราได้ใกล้ชิดกับลูกค้ามากขึ้น
เราเชื่อว่าทุกคนต่างมีดีมีเอกลักษณ์และมีเรื่องราวของตัวเอง เราเองให้ความสนใจเรื่องเล็กๆ น้อยๆที่อาจจะช่วยให้การใช้ชีวิตคุ้มค่ามีความหมาย
