It took three years to write the stories and three months to do the editing, finding the matching photos and pictures, but I couldn’t name the book until rereading an email from Susan which wrote to me on April 21, 2021. She encouraged me to write as in her email on the next page. Susan also helped guide me and bettered my English.
The stories were written in English, so that my kids and their children can read. Then they were translated into Thai. Their photos and pictures however, were spread on both languages.
To make it easier for the readers to find the stories of their interests, the 72 stories were categorized into 9 different groupings. For your convenience, you may find these stories on vancekitirastories.com.

ได้เขียนเรื่องราวเป็นภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อให้ลูกๆที่เกิดโตในอเมริกาได้อ่านรวมถึงลูกๆของพวกเขา ทุกเรื่องได้แปลเป็นภาษาไทย ส่วนภาพถ่ายและรูปภาพได้ถูกวางลงในทั้งสองภาษา ‘เล่มสลึง’ เป็นชื่อเรียกง่ายๆให้กับเล่มนี้

Hey Vance,
I love the idea of you writing stories of your life. You have had so many interesting adventures in your life.
After my mom passed away, I wondered why didn’t I ask more questions. My mom was picked up in a wagon to go to school, they had an outhouse and no electricity, her uncle had surgery on the kitchen table, she and her brother were in the barn when it caught fire, and so on. It was so different than what it was for me growing up. I would love to know more. I don’t feel my life is so different from my kids, but that may not be true.
You grew up very poor, did you know you were poor? Do I remember right, your parents moved from China to Thailand. What was that like for them, why did they move. You grew up with so many siblings, where did you all sleep, how did you get to school, what games did you play? You left Thailand to go to school in the US, how did you feel, what did your mom think. You traveled the US in your car I believe. What took you where you went, what happened on some of those trips.
You actually stay in contact with your family, a lot of contact, that is actually not the norm for most people, why do you do that? You helped an orphanage, there has to be stories. You were a monk, you are the only monk I know. What was that like, how did you feel, how did it change you.
I think you have had a very interesting life, I would like to know more. Your life was very different, it went in so many different directions. You have great stories and I know people like to listen to them. How about some of them?
